Sunrisers Hyderabad 7-130
(Vihari 44*, Henriques 2-14) tied with Royal Challengers Bangalore 8-130
(Kohli 46, Henriques 44, I Sharma 3-27). Sunrisers Hyderabad won the Super Over 0-20 to 0-15 by five runs.
The first Super Over of IPL 2013 has seen the Cameron White and the Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat the Royal Challengers Banglaore in another thriller.
White stepped up for Hyderabad in the Super Over, monstering 17 individual runs including two huge sixes to leave Chris Gayle and Bangalore 21 for the win. Dale Steyn was the man chosen by Sunrisers captain Kumar Sangakkara to blunt Gayle and co., and after four balls Bangalore needed 12 to tie. The fifth ball proved costly for Steyn as Gayle sent a length ball into orbit leaving six needed from the final ball. Watching the game live you'd almost bank on Gayle producing another Super Over but it wasn't to be; a shorter ball was swatted to long off for one handing Steyn the victory.
Ball dominated bat during regulation time. Virat Kohli and Moises Henriques combined well for Bangalore, both falling in the forties on a deck that was two-paced from ball one. Only Kohlu and Henriques could manage double figures, proving how important a team performance is in T20 cricket. Ishant Sharma snagged three wickets, but it was Amit Mishra who again put the brakes on the opposing run chase, conceding only 15 runs from his four overs plus the one wicket. 130 looked a competitive score on a tricky pitch which saw both Gayle and Dilshan fail at the top.
In reply, Hyderabad went the other way. Hanuma Vihari made a patient 44 not out from 46 balls with only two boundaries. His innings played to the conditions perfectly, staying till the end to see the match go further. Three other players made it into double figures but nothing past 23. Thirteen runs were required from the final two overs that proved to be the match threshold. A scampered bye sent the match into a dramatic final stage in a game where both teams had plenty of opportunities to win.
