The Melbourne Stars
have today announced the signing of Victorian paceman Scott Boland
as their 18th player for BBL|03.
The 24-year-old quick adds further depth to a strong bowling line-up already containing the likes of Lasith Malinga, Clint McKay, James Faulkner and Jackson Bird.
Melbourne Stars Head Coach, Greg Shipperd believes the emerging talent is nothing short of an excellent acquisition for the Stars.
“I’m very pleased to save secured Scott as our final player in the Stars squad,” said Shipperd.
“A quick who hits the wicket hard and has already shown he’s ready to mix it at this level after a promising start in the RYOBI One-Day Cup competition.
“Importantly, he provides further depth to our already talented bowling stable, and ultimately, quality cover for when our stocks are left depleted due to National selections.
“Our complete squad is well balanced and versatile - I think we’re in a very strong position going into the BBL|03 competition.”
The signing comes as Boland’s promising form from last season continues in Victoria’s opening RYOBIOne-Day Cup matches.
Taking wickets in all four matches, Boland currently sits equal top of the table for most wickets taken in the competition thus far. He now boasts a limited overs average of 25.34, having taken 23 wickets in his 12 List A games.
In addition to troubling local batsmen, Boland proved a headache for the touring English Lions side last year. In the two matches against English team he recorded bowling performances of 3/36 and 4/29.
After spending time in BBL|02 with the Hobart Hurricanes, Boland has welcomed the opportunity to return home and play with many of his Victorian teammates.
“To be able to play for a team like the Stars and at the MCG with many of my Bushrangers teammates is something I’m really excited by,” Boland said.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to work closely with Shippy - he knows my game and what I can contribute to the team.”
The signing of Boland fills the final position on the Stars list for the BBL|03 season. Boland will join the green team in early December ahead of the season opener against the Melbourne Renegades on December 20.
