Security boost after Aussie bus incident

No injuries after a window was broken on the team bus on Monday night, prompting extra security presence on trouble-free return journey for day two

Australia suffered a minor scare on their Test tour of Bangladesh after what is believed to be a small rock was thrown at the window of their team bus in Chittagong on Monday.

No Australian player or any of the support staff were injured in the incident, which occurred on their short trip back from the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium to the team hotel after the first day's play in the port city.

The bus suffered only minor damage and no glass or any projectile fell into the bus, although a window was broken.

"En route back to the hotel last night a window on the Australian team bus was broken. No one was injured in the incident," said Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia's Security Manager.

"Team security personnel are currently in discussion with local authorities while they investigate the cause, which is believed to have come from a small rock or stone.

"Bangladesh authorities are taking the incident seriously and security has been increased on the route."

Visit puts wet weather into perspective

Already granted what was described as 'head of state' levels of security, Bangladesh authorities upped the security presence for the Australian team's trip to the ground on Tuesday.

"The BCB has taken this matter with utmost seriousness and a high-power committee has been formed by the concerned security agencies to investigate and find out the facts," the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement.

"The Board has been in constant communication with the Australian Cricket Team management. As added assurance, security measures have been enhanced on the travelling route of the teams."

Carroll said he was pleased with the security the visitors had been provided so far.

"To date we have been happy with the security measures that have been in place and we are comfortable with the response from the Bangladesh authorities and the increased security presence we have been provided in light of the incident," he said.

Australia travelled to the ground without incident on Tuesday, with play to get underway on day two of the second Test as normal.

Bangladesh will resume on 6-253 in muggy tropical heat after Nathan Lyon claimed 5-77 on the opening day.
