West Indies great Brian Lara has been confirmed as the final member of a Legends XI to take on reigning KFC Big Bash League champions Perth Scorchers next month.

Lara will join Australian greats Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Glenn McGrath, Justin Langer and Andrew Symonds in the Legends XI to play the Scorchers during the WA Festival of Cricket at Aquinas College in Perth on December 11.

Lara, one of the best Test batsmen of all time with 11,953 runs from 131 matches, joins fellow international stars Herschelle Gibbs and Andrew Flintoff for the match, which will give the Scorchers a chance to warm up before their first hit-out of the BBL|05 season against the Adelaide Strikers on December 21.

Lara starred in last year’s Festival of Cricket T20, scoring an unbeaten 51 in front of a bumper crowd at Aquinas College, in a match the Perth Scorchers ultimately won by 50 runs.

The match sets up an intriguing contest for Langer - the Scorchers coach - and Gilchrist, who is the franchise's No.1 ticketholder.

"This is an unbelievable opportunity for our players, especially our younger players, to come up against some of the most respected names in cricket," Langer said when the second edition of the T20 match was announced in August.

"The experience they will gain from playing against these players and having the opportunity to speak with them on the day can only help them with their cricket."

Australian Legends XI: Adam Gilchrist (captain), Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Andrew Symonds, Michael Kasprowicz, Andy Bichel, Andrew Flintoff, Herschelle Gibbs, Glenn McGrath, Brian Lara.

The WA Festival of Cricket Twenty20 match will be streamed live on bigbash.com.au, cricket.com.au and the Cricket Australia: LIVE App. Tickets are available via festivalofcricket.net.au.
