Sixes galore at the Gabba as Hobart get home despite remarkable ton from Lynn

The match in a tweet: Six of the best! Christian hits the roof, maximums rain down at the Gabba, #Lynnsanity trends in Brissy and Hurricanes sneak home by 15 runs #BBL05

WATCH: Highlights of Lynn's brilliant hundred

The hero: Once he'd thumped 54no from 26 balls to help his side to 4-194, including the biggest six of the summer (more on that later), Dan Christian had a mortgage on this – but then Chris Lynn happened! The big-hitting Queenslander smashed seven sixes in his knock of 101 from 51 balls in a spectacular performance that will have shot him from outsider to serious contender to wear green and gold in Australia's World T20 team next March. The right-hander again gave a pointed illustration of his ability to clear the pickets, extending his lead as the Big Bash's most prolific six-hitter and sending the Gabba crowd wild in the process. It was a remarkable knock, and one that deserved to be on the winning side.

The next best: Who else but Christian? At 4-126 in the 15th over, the platform was well set for the big-hitting allrounder, and he capitalised. Four sixes and three fours later, he'd powered his side to a massive 4-194. It was thrilling stuff, and the maximums were simply massive.

The victim: We'll stick to the same theme here – poor old Luke Feldman was on his Heat debut and, fresh from celebrating the wicket of Kumar Sangakkara, was deposited out of the ground by Christian. It was an over the cost 25 and destroyed Feldman's figures – he finished with 1-53 from four overs. To make matters worse, he was then run-out from the boundary ... without facing a ball.

The support cast: The Hurricanes top four did a superb job setting up the match. Tim Paine (25 from 22) and Ben Dunk (27 from 22) got their side off to a flying start with a 50-run stand inside the Powerplay, then Kumar Sangakkara (32) and George Bailey (31) followed suit, dutifully doing their jobs before the fireworks began. Then just as Lynn looked like stealing the match, leg-spinner Cameron Boyce stepped up, removing the danger man and triggering a collapse that ultimately turned the tide.

The moment: Christian hit this one so far – 117 metres onto the Gabba roof, to be exact – that Sammy thought his partner's bat had caught fire. Sit back and enjoy this …

The stat: We'll give you two tonight. Just for fun. 1. Lynn's century is the 11th in BBL history, and the second by a Heat batsman, after Luke Pomersbach (112no) in January 2013. And 2. There were 16 sixes in the match - watch them here.

The debut: Sam Heazlett, take a bow. The Heat youngster already has a Shield ton to his name with Queensland this summer and announced his arrival on the Big Bash scene with a six over long on to get off the mark. He finished with 26 from 24 and looks a young man from whom we'll be seeing plenty more in the future.

The consolation effort: Samuel Badree continues to prove himself a T20 force. Two wickets halted the Hurricanes' momentum, and given his return of 2-27 from four overs, captain Paine will have wished he could've bowled him for eight.

The knock to forget: Was that really Darren Sammy out there? As Christian lit up the Gabba virtually every ball, his allrounder mate Sammy couldn't hit it off the square. In a partnership of 68, he added just seven from 14 balls, looking particularly out of sorts throughout.

The wash-up: That's all but season over for the Heat, which must be a bitter pill for Lynn to swallow, given his phenomenal batting. It's two on the trot for the Hurricanes, both over Brisbane, and onwards and upwards for the men in purple.

The next stops: The Hurricanes host the unbeaten Thunder on New Year's Day, while the Heat also have the Thunder visiting, on January 3.
