WA rout Tigers for lowest-ever Shield total

Tasmania bowled out for 63 on final day, lasting just 23.1 overs with Western Australia's quicks running riot at the WACA

Tasmania have been blasted out for their lowest-ever Sheffield Shield total following a frenzied finish to their clash with Western Australia in Perth.

Chasing 365 to win in the fourth-innings, the Tigers meekly folded for just 63 as the Warriors bowlers ran rampant on the final day of their opening JLT Sheffield Shield match of the season.

It was comfortably the lowest tally Tasmania have ever been dismissed for in their 40-season history in the competition, beating their previous worst of 76 against NSW in 1992.

Athletic NCN removes Bailey with a stunner

It was also the fifth-lowest innings score ever made in a Shield game at the WACA.

Three batsman (Alex Doolan, Ben McDermott and Gabe Bell) made ducks while only Beau Webster (33 not out) reached double figures.

Remarkably, Webster finished with 52 per cent of Tasmania's final tally, with the margin of victory a whopping 301 runs.

Western Australia, who'd earlier in the day declared on 9-272 thanks to a 120-run eighth wicket partnership between No.9 Nathan Coulter-Nile (52) and No.10 Jhye Richardson (72), reduced the visitors to 3-8 inside the first three overs.

Coulter-Nile cracks counter-attacking half-century

Coulter-Nile (3-18) took an incredible tumbling catch off his own bowling to see the back of skipper George Bailey for three.

From 4-13, Tasmania crumbled to 6-25 and then 9-35 as a procession of batsmen made their way to and from the changerooms.

Richardson slams maiden first-class half-century

Webster edged to second slip with Tasmania on 9-46 but the skiddy speedster Richardson (1-17) had overstepped and was called for a no-ball.

Richardson made up for his error with a terrific direct-hit run out of No.11 Andrew Fekete (6) to end the match after a 28-run last-wicket stand between him and Webster.

Towering right-armer Simon Mackin finished with 3-20 including the scalp of incumbent Test wicketkeeper Matthew Wade for six, while debutant quick Matthew Kelly (1-7) also chipped in to finish with five wickets for the match.
