Clarke on the radar for Matador Cup, BBL

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has held discussions with Cricket NSW about possibly playing in this year's Matador BBQs One-Day Cup as well as the KFC Big Bash League.

Clarke retired from international cricket following Australia's Ashes defeat last year but announced in January he would make a comeback to the sport.

The 35-year-old returned to Sydney grade cricket in February and will headline the two-day T20 Blitz tournament in Hong Kong next week.

He is yet to finalise any on-field plans beyond the Hong Kong tournament, but Cricket NSW have confirmed they have held discussions with the former Test and ODI skipper about the coming summer.

Clarke could use the Matador Cup as a platform for a stint in the BBL later in the summer, with the Sydney Sixers confirming earlier this year they have met with him about signing for BBL|06.

Clarke has previously been contracted to Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars, but he's yet to play a BBL game.

Should Clarke turn out in the Matador Cup, it would be his first one-day fixture at state or international level since he lifted the Cricket World Cup aloft at the MCG in March last year.

He hasn't played a one-day match for the Blues since October 2012.

In the short term, Clarke has his eye on the two-day tournament in Hong Kong on May 28 and 29.

"I am really excited to be playing with the Kowloon Cantons in the upcoming T20 tournament," Clarke told News Limited earlier this month.

"I can’t wait to meet my teammates and experience the city, while also hopefully contributing to the game of cricket in Hong Kong which I know has been coming on leaps and bounds in recent years."

Clarke hasn't played T20 cricket since his stint with the now defunct Pune Warriors in 2012.
