Perth Scorchers captain suspended after collecting second over-rate offence of BBL|07

Defending KFC BBL champions Perth Scorchers have received a blow, with captain Adam Voges suspended for one match due to a second slow over-rate offence this season.

The Scorchers were found to be one over short in their match against the Sydney Thunder on Thursday night, their second offence in less than a week after a similar breach against the Brisbane Heat on January 5.

Scorchers almost steal a thriller in Sydney

Voges, as captain in both matches, has received a second strike in accordance with the BBL Playing Conditions, which has triggered an automatic one-match suspension.

It means Voges will miss Saturday's match against Adelaide Strikers in Alice Springs.

Perth Scorchers and former Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson said the over-rate penalties were a "joke".

Each member of the Scorchers playing XI has been fined $1000 for the latest breach, which would be halved to $500 per player if accepted without appeal.

Earlier on Friday, the Hobart Hurricanes became the fifth team to be fined for a slow over rate this season.

The Hurricanes were found to be an over short in their match against the Brisbane Heat on Wednesday night.

It means Hurricanes skipper George Bailey joins Shane Watson (Thunder), John Hastings (Melbourne Stars) and Moises Henriques (Sydney Sixers) in being on one strike heading into the second half of the regular season.

Henriques, who had recently taken time away from the game for personal reasons, has returned to the Sixers side for this weekend's Sydney derby, but Johan Botha will continue to captain the side.
