Bailey adds injury to Hobart's insult

George Bailey will wait for the results of scans after suffering what appeared to be a serious shoulder injury diving in the field during the KFC BBL semi-final against the Melbourne Stars.

Medical staff had to pop Bailey's right shoulder back into place after the veteran batsman dislocated it while fielding as he attempted to stop a ball on the Blundstone Arena boundary.

The 36-year-old will have to wait to determine the full extent of the injury, which proved salt in the Hurricanes' wounds on Thursday as the standout side of BBL|08's regular season suffered a six-wicket defeat to the Melbourne Stars.

While the Hurricanes’ season came to an abrupt end, Bailey remains a key cog in Tasmania’s JLT Sheffield Shield side and now appears in doubt for at least some of the concluding stages of the domestic season.

Whether he’ll be able to play any part in the final four games of Tasmania's Shield campaign, which resumes next week, remains to be seen.

"He was sitting in there (in the changerooms) with his arm in a sling," Hurricanes captain Matthew Wade said post-match.

"I think it popped out so he'll have to have scans tomorrow to find out exactly what happened. It didn't look great on the ground."

While he had stopped the ball going for four, Bailey immediately looked to be in severe pain after the incident, slumping back to his haunches after initially getting to his feet and taking time to compose himself.

Medical staff were quick on the scene, but some time elapsed before Bailey was able to get up and walk back to the change rooms.

He was eventually escorted off for treatment, earning strong applause from the Hobart crowd.

The match was in the balance when Bailey went down, with the Stars 4-112 in the 15th over chasing 154 to win.

But Glenn Maxwell, who struck the ball that prompted the Bailey incident, played a match-winning hand of 43no off 33 balls to see the Stars home and rain on the Hurricanes' parade.

The Stars will play the winner of the Melbourne Renegades-Sydney Sixers semi-final, to be played on Friday at Marvel Stadium, in the BBL|08 decider on Sunday afternoon.
