Redmayne re-signs with 'Canes

Talented wicketkeeper-batter the latest to jump on the 'Cane train for WBBL|03

Hobart Hurricanes have secured the services of key wicketkeeper-batter Georgia Redmayne for the upcoming Rebel WBBL season.

After relocating to Tasmania for WBBL|02 from her native NSW in search of greater opportunities and a Big Bash League contract, Redmayne was a revelation for the Hurricanes last summer.

She scored 278 runs in 14 games, including a high score of 64 not out, and completed 12 dismissals with the gloves.

Her efforts were enough to earn the 23-year-old medical student a place in the Australia A squad which toured Sri Lanka earlier this year, and Redmayne said she was excited to be wearing purple again in WBBL|03.

“I’m extremely excited to be given the opportunity to re-sign with the Hurricanes,” Redmayne said.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my first taste of big bash cricket in WBBL02 and can’t wait to be back in purple this summer and hopefully help bring home our first WBBL title.”

The Hurricanes made the semi-finals for a second consecutive year last summer, and Redmayne said the balance in the squad would be a crucial factor in continuing that success for a third year.

“One of the best elements of our squad last year was our depth - we were really well-rounded and never had to rely on a single player. As a collective, we produced some incredible results,” she said.

“We have a great positive culture and energy around the group here and hopefully that will translate into some good performances this year.”

With the Big Bash’s popularity growing each year, Redmayne said she was looking forward to seeing Tasmania throw even more support behind the Hurricanes this season.

"It’s great to be a part of a domestic tournament which offers the opportunity to play alongside and against some of the best players in the world,” she said.

“It’s wonderful to see the way the local fans and media are embracing the women’s game.

“Hopefully we get a great turnout this season both in Hobart and Launceston, it’s always fantastic to meet the young girls and boys and see how much the Tasmanian public have embraced the Hurricanes brand.”

Redmayne is the fourth confirmed signing for the Hurricanes, alongside Erin Fazackerley, Brooke Hepburn and Emma Thompson.
