Twenty20 history for Denly in England

The allrounder was on song in England's Twenty20 competition with a hundred and a hat-trick in the same match

England allrounder Joe Denly created history on Friday as he became the first person to score a hundred and take a hat-trick in the same Twenty20 match.

Playing for Kent Spitfires in England's Twenty20 Blast competition, Denly smashed 102 from just 63 deliveries to help his team amass an imposing score of 6-173.

The 32-year-old then followed up his century by claiming a hat-trick with his part-time leg spin on his way to figures of 3-31 from four overs as the Spitfires held on for a six-run victory over Surrey.

Denly produced glimpses of his prowess during a stint with the Sydney Sixers last summer.

He scored a quickfire 43 on debut against the Thunder in January and a tremendous 72 off 45 balls to help the Sixers defeat the Stars at the SCG later in the tournament.

Denly's performance with bat and ball in England wasn't the only superb individual effort overnight, with Australia allrounder Daniel Christian smashing the second-fastest century in the history of England's domestic Twenty20 competition.

Christian belted nine sixes and seven boundaries on his way to an unbeaten 133 from just 40 deliveries, his effort helping the Nottinghamshire Outlaws beat the Northamptonshire Steelbacks by 58 runs.

Callum Ferguson was another Australian to impress in England's Twenty20 competition overnight, with the veteran batter contributing 45 in Worcestershire Rapids' narrow triumph over local rivals Birmingham Bears.

Michael Klinger (21), Shaun Marsh (15) and Usman Khawaja (9) failed to fire for their respective sides, while Adam Zampa (4 not out and 1-21) played a part in Essex Eagles' three-wicket victory over Middlesex.
