Richardson sees red for BBL|07

Australia paceman confirms move to Melbourne Renegades

South Australia speedster Kane Richardson will swap blue for red this Big Bash summer after the Melbourne Renegades secured the services of the international quick for the next five seasons.

Richardson makes the move after playing the first six seasons of the KFC Big Bash League with the Adelaide Strikers as the club's leading wicket-taker.

"It's an exciting challenge and one I'm really looking forward to," Richardson said.

"The Renegades have a great member and supporter base and a strong list which was important in making the decision to move.

"I know Andrew McDonald pretty well from his time in South Australia and having chats with the other South Australian players who have been at the Renegades in recent seasons made it clear that it is a well-run club to be involved with."

The signature of Richardson is a coup for the Renegades after the right-armer made his international return last month on Australia's one-day international tour of India.

He picked up seven wickets in three matches after he was flown over as cover for injured spinner Ashton Agar ad will take part in the three-match T20 international series, which starts in Ranchi on tomorrow (Sunday 12.30am AEST).

The move took on extra signifigance with the news that fast bowler James Pattinson will take an indefinite break from cricket after re-aggravating a lower back stress fracture that also rules him out of the Magellan Ashes.

"It will be great to have Richo in red and doing an important job for us," Renegades coach McDonald said.

"He's aggressive with the white ball and a very good set of hands in the field which is hugely important under the pressure of the T20 environment."

Richardson joins a pace attack that is light on experience following the exit of Test veteran Peter Siddle, who will effectively replace Richardson at the Strikers this season.

Current Squad: Dwayne Bravo (OS), Aaron Finch, Marcus Harris, Tim Ludeman, Sunil Narine (OS), James Pattinson, Kane Richardson, Chris Tremain, Matthew Wade, Cameron White.
