Full squads for Marsh One-Day Cup opening week

All six squads for the opening games of the new-look Marsh One-Day Cup, which will be played in Perth and Brisbane

The 2019-20 Australian summer of cricket begins this Saturday with the start of the revamped, rebranded domestic one-day tournament, the Marsh Cup.

The six state teams have been split across two cities for the opening week of matches, with Victoria and Tasmania joining Western Australia in Perth, while NSW and South Australia are with Queensland in Brisbane.

Best of the 2018-19 One-Day Cup competition

The opening week will see one match a day played between September 21 and 26, with the Brisbane games to be broadcast live on Fox Cricket and Kayo while the Perth matches will be live streamed on cricket.com.au and the CA Live app.

The tournament will then move to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney before it takes a break for the start of the Marsh Sheffield Shield on October 10.

New South Wales

New South Wales will be without all six of their Ashes stars for the opening two matches of the tournament, meaning up to four players are in line to make their debut in their matches against Queensland and South Australia in Brisbane.

Nick Bertus, Matthew Gilkes, Liam Hatcher and Nathan McAndrew could play their first one-day games for the Blues, while experienced players like Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques and Sean Abbott will be charged with leading the way for the young squad.

Queensland

Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser have been named in the Bulls squad for their opening two matches, but fellow Ashes squad member Usman Khawaja has been rested for the start of the tournament.

The duo will be assessed after their flight home from the UK ahead of Sunday’s match against NSW, but it’s expected they’ll at least be available for their game against the Redbacks on September 24.

South Australia

South Australia will be without skipper Travis Head (rested) for their opening two matches, but still boast a strong squad led by World Cup players Alex Carey, Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson.

Jake Lehmann will captain the side in Head’s absence after the Ashes, while teenage leg-spinner Lloyd Pope could make his debut in matches against Queensland and NSW in Brisbane next week.

Tasmania

Tasmania will be without Test stars Tim Paine and Matthew Wade for their opening two matches, with Jordan Silk to captain the side in their absence.

The 14-man Tigers squad that will travel to Perth for matches against Victoria and Western Australia also features veteran George Bailey and allrounder James Faulkner, who hasn’t played for Tasmania in almost two years.

Victoria

Three Australian World Cup players highlight Victoria’s squad for their opening two matches in Perth, although the Vics are without Ashes players Marcus Harris, Peter Siddle and James Pattinson.

Peter Handscomb, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell will lead a side featuring young guns like Will Pucovski, Will Sutherland and Mackenzie Harvey as the Vics aim to defend the title they won last year.

Western Australia

The back niggle Jason Behrendorff picked up in his short T20 stint with Sussex in the UK has seen WA take a cautious approach and rest him from the opening two matches of their campaign against the Vics and Tasmania at home.

However they still boast a formidable bowling line-up with World Cup stars Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis back in the mix, as well as a long-awaited return from a shoulder injury for Jhye Richardson.

They also welcome the return of Test batsman Cameron Bancroft, who played the first two matches of the Ashes, while allrounder Mitchell Marsh will miss this weekend after his efforts at The Oval in the fifth Test.
