Heat prove too strong for Renegades

Bash Brothers tee off to lead the Heat to a huge win over the Renegades

Brisbane Heat's Bash Brothers have put on a show in Geelong, driving the visitors to a thumping 101-run win over Melbourne Renegades.

Sent in to bat on Sunday, the Heat piled on 4-192 at GMHBA Stadium - the third-highest total of the season - before bowling out the hapless Renegades for 91 off 17.5 overs.

Bash Brothers go bananas

It is the second-highest BBL defeat by runs after Melbourne Stars' 112-run victory over the Renegades in the 2015-16 season.

"Everything that could go wrong probably did go wrong," Renegades captain Tom Cooper said.

"They made it look like a very good wicket so we were reasonably confident that we could have a good dip at it, if not chase it down. To capitulate like that is obviously very disappointing."

Brendon McCullum (69) and Chris Lynn (66 not out) were in typically audacious form but it was the Heat's newest big-hitting specialist, 19-year-old opener Max Bryant, who had the visitors firing from the start.

Bryant belts Renegades with 44

Bryant (44 of 24 balls) reeled off four consecutive boundaries as one-time Test paceman Joe Mennie went for 23 runs off his second over.

Mennie was hastily removed from the Renegades' attack but the damage continued as the Heat raced to 0-65 off five overs.

Bryant announced himself when he plundered 71 from 31 balls during the JLT One-Day Cup - in the process making the fastest half-century in Queensland history - then scoring 62 for a CA XI against a full-strength Indian attack.

Three fifties on the trot for McCullum

Facing Renegades spinner Mohammed Nabi, Bryant fired a return shot so hard it knocked McCullum's bat out of his hands at the non-striker's end.

He eventually holed out in the deep to Dan Christian's bowling but McCullum was in typically destructive form, smashing five sixes.

Lynn didn't take long to get in on the act, scoring four sixes including an outrageous sweep shot over deep backward square-leg.

"Max Bryant and Brendon McCullum have built awesome platforms for me to come in and really take my time or launch early if I want to," Lynn said.

"They're really complementing my game."

Lynn launches big against Renegades

Matthew Renshaw surprisingly opened the bowling for the Heat with his part-time off-spin and almost had Mackenzie Harvey stumped.

Harvey soon fell to Brendon Doggett, while recalled quick Josh Lalor dismissed Test opener Marcus Harris on two.

The Renegades staggered to 3-29 off their first six overs before tailender Cameron Boyce saved the Renegades some blushes - and a record defeat - with a cameo 25 which included two sixes.

Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson and paceman Doggett each snared three wickets.
