Wade completes amazing return

Less than a month after surgery, Renegades name left-hander for Geelong Summer Smash against Melbourne Stars

Matthew Wade will make his return to cricket in Friday's KFC Big Bash League exhibition match in Geelong, less than a month after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Wade went under the knife on November 17 after breaking his collarbone in the lead-up to Victoria's Sheffield Shield match against WA at the MCG.

The injury was initially expected to keep him out of action until after Christmas, but the left-hander has been declared fit by the Melbourne Renegades for their clash against the Melbourne Stars at Simonds Stadium on Friday night.

The 27-year-old will bat in the exhibition match, but not keep wickets. Aaron Ayre is expected to take the gloves in his place.

Despite the initial six-week diagnosis, Wade revealed to cricket.com.au last week that he was confident of being fully fit for the Renegades' season opener against Brisbane Heat on December 19.

Quick Single: Wade eyes BBL opener

The match is part of the inaugural 'Geelong Carnival of Cricket' and it will be the first time cricket has been played under lights at the venue. A crowd of up to 15,000 people is expected at the 23,000-seater stadium.

The touring West Indies side will also play at Simonds Stadium against a Victorian Invitational XI in the 'Calypso on Corio' clash to be held on December 19-20.

Quick Single: Cricket in Geelong bigger than ever

Wade has been named in a 13-man provisional squad for the historic match, along with Australia's T20 captain Aaron Finch and Renegades recruits Cameron White, Xavier Doherty and Nathan Hauritz.

The Stars have also named a 13-man squad featuring the likes of Glenn Maxwell, James Faulkner and English import Luke Wright.

The Stars also announced the signing of young Victorian player Seb Gotch for the next two seasons, as well as contract extensions for Maxwell, John Hastings and Peter Handscomb. Hastings has signed on for the next four seasons, while Maxwell and Handscomb have inked deals until the end of BBL|07.

The 'Geelong Summer Smash' at Simonds Stadium gets underway at 7.30pm AEDT on Friday. Tickets: http://www.ticketek.com or at the gate. Fans are advised to get to the ground early to avoid queues. The match will be covered live on bigbash.com.au
