Renegades snap up ex-Thunder pair

Hauritz, Tremain join the red half of Melbourne ahead of Big Bash

Melbourne Renegades have boosted their bowling stocks with the signings of former Australia Test spinner Nathan Hauritz and emerging young paceman Chris Tremain.

Hauritz, who has represented Australia in all three formats, heads to the spin-friendly Etihad Stadium after playing in the KFC Big Bash League with the Thunder in BBL|04 and the Heat in seasons prior.

"I'm looking forward to a great summer in Melbourne with the Renegades," the 33-year-old said. "The club has put together a strong squad this season and I'm looking forward to hitting the deck at Etihad Stadium in front of all the Renegades fans.

"It's an exciting time to be involved with the club."

Hauritz has taken 35 wickets in 52 domestic T20 games with an economy rate of 7.46, and took 63 wickets in 58 ODIs at 34.15.

Tremain is originally from Yeoval in Western NSW and is now part of the Victorian Bushrangers squad. He took three wickets in three matches playing for the Sydney Thunder in BBL|04.

"I'm pleased to get the opportunity to join the Renegades and be on board for the next two seasons," the 24-year-old said.

"There are some really experienced players in our squad – many of who I know from Victorian circles – so I'll use this experience to learn as much as I can from them and make the most of my opportunities as they come up."

The pair will join other new signings Cameron White and Xavier Doherty in red in BBL|05 alongside internationals Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo.

Renegades head coach David Saker said Hauritz and Tremain gave the side a variety of options in the bowling attack.

"The combination of having Nathan and Xavier Doherty as the right and left-arm spinners was something we think can work for us this season – particularly at Etihad Stadium," Saker said. "Nathan brings years of experience to the side and he'll be an important influence around the group.

"Chris is a talented young bowler who I've obviously got to watch fairly closely in my first few months as coach of the Bushrangers.

"He brings a lot of energy to his bowling and I have no doubt he'll be doing all the right things to be considered for selection during the season."

Renegades squad (to date): Aaron Finch (captain), Chris Gayle, Cameron White, Matthew Wade, Dwayne Bravo, Callum Ferguson, Peter Siddle, James Pattinson, Tom Beaton, Tom Cooper, Nick Winter, Matthew Short, Nathan Rimmington, Xavier Doherty, Nathan Hauritz and Chris Tremain.
