Strong Curran blows in to Hobart

Hurricanes announce young English quick as second overseas signing for BBL|07

Hobart Hurricanes' British connection will continue this summer after the club confirmed England fast bowler Tom Curran will fill the second overseas slot in their squad for the forthcoming KFC Big Bash League season.

Curran, who took a wicket with his second ball in international cricket in a T20 against South Africa in June, will team up with fellow Englishman Tymal Mills, who the Hurricanes have signed on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old Curran, who has three T20 Internationals to his name, is also following in the footsteps of Test star Stuart Broad, who was Hobart's fast-bowling recruit last season but will this summer be involved in England's Magellan Ashes campaign.

"I can't wait, it's a great opportunity and an honour to be involved with the Hobart Hurricanes," said Curran.

"I'm looking forward to getting out to Australia and being part of the Big Bash, it's something I'm really excited about.

"We follow the Big Bash quite a lot in England – it's one of the biggest T20 competitions in the world. Listening to other English players who have played in the tournament they've only got great things to say about it.

"I can't wait to join the squad and the coaching staff in Tasmania."

Renowned for his death bowling, Curran took 3-33 on T20I debut against the Proteas and made his one-day international debut in September against West Indies, removing Chris Gayle for his maiden ODI scalp.

The right-armer also claimed 12 wickets at 23.41 with an economy rate of 7.80 for Surrey in England's domestic T20 competition this year.

Having seen Hurricanes captain George Bailey pile up runs against his county side while playing for Hampshire in recent years, Curran says he's glad the Tasmanian is wearing the same colours as him in BBL|07.

"I'm glad he's on my side – he loves batting against Surrey and I've got some bad memories from a personal perspective bowling to him," said Curran.

"But he's a great guy and I can't wait to work alongside him at the Hurricanes."

With the signing of Curran, the Hurricanes have now filled 16 of their 18 available roster spots.
