Heat secure Dottin for WBBL|02

The WBBL Brisbane Heat have signed eight players for the second season of the Women’s Big Bash League including West Indies superstar Deandra Dottin.

Dottin joins Southern Stars trio Jessica Jonassen, Holly Ferling and Beth Mooney, inaugural Heat captain Delissa Kimmence, Jemma Barsby, Coutney Hill and Kara Sutherland who has switched clubs from the Sydney Sixers.

Dottin, 25, was an integral member of the Windies outfit that won the women’s World T20 in India earlier this year, taking 2-33 and scoring 18no in the victory over Australia in the tournament decider.

The allrounder represented the Perth Scorchers last summer, but is looking forward to playing on the east coast of Australia. 

"The first season of the WBBL was fun to be involved in," Dottin said. "I am excited about playing in Australia again, and getting to know Brisbane.

"I have played against some of the (Heat) girls and am looking forward to getting to know them when we all assemble for the start of the tournament."

Dottin crashed the first women’s T20 international century from only 38 balls against South Africa in 2010, and Heat coach Andy Richards can’t wait to work with the destructive allrounder.

"Deandra’s batting is very well suited to T20," Richards said. "She’s a powerful hitter with a sound technique.

"Her international playing experience will complement our squad and she has a knack of getting key wickets when she bowls.

"We’re looking forward to having her here and showcasing her skills for the fans."

The eight key personnel additions weren’t the only signatures the Heat secured, with Principal Partners Epic Pharmacy agreeing to support Brisbane for the next two seasons.

Interim Queensland Cricket CEO and former Australia fast bowler Michael Kasporwicz was elated with EPIC’s renewal.

"PIC are a wonderful success story in their own right and a great supporter of women in sport and the WBBL Brisbane Heat," Kasporwicz said.

"We are delighted they are back for another two years and look forward to working with them as we continue grow the game for girls and women."
