WBBL|05: The run home for each club

Six teams remain alive in WBBL|05 with a massive final weekend of regular season matches to come

1st: Brisbane Heat (18 points)

Played 13 | Won 9 | Lost 4 | NRR 0.706

The run home

Dec 1 v Stars (away, Junction Oval)

The defending champions remain in a strong position despite their slip up against the Renegades on Wednesday, but their hopes of hosting the finals - both semi-final and the final will be played at the one venue from December 7-8 - are now out of their hands. They need to defeat the Stars on Sunday and hope the Strikers drop at least one of their matches against the Sixers in order to finish top, while a wet forecast in Melbourne will also have them nervous.

2nd: Adelaide Strikers (18 points)

Played 12 | Won 9 | Lost 3 | NRR 0.602

The run home

Nov 30 v Sixers (away, Hurstville Oval)

Dec 1 v Sixers (away, Hurstville Oval)

It’s worth noting that in four seasons the Strikers have never beaten the Sixers. There’s never been a better time for them to make history, with the potential to host the WBBL Finals Weekend on offer. Equal on points with the Heat, they just need to win, and win well to give themselves the best possible chance of taking out top spot.

3rd: Perth Scorchers (16 points)

Played 12 | Won 8 | Lost 4 | NRR 0.039

The run home

Nov 30 v Hurricanes (home, Lilac Hill)

Dec 1 v Hurricanes (home, Lilac Hill)

Back-to-back wins over the Sydney Sixers at Lilac Hill have set the Scorchers up beautifully for a tilt at finals. They can consolidate their position with two games at home against the Hurricanes to come and can only be knocked out if they lose both and the Renegades win all their remaining games. Their biggest concern will be the fact they lose star English pair Amy Jones and Nat Sciver to international duties for finals, so they'll be keen to give game time to those who will need to step up in their absence.

4th: Sydney Sixers (12 points)

Played 12 | Won 6 | Lost 6 | NRR 0.006

The run home

Nov 30 v Strikers (home, Hurstville Oval)

Dec 1 v Strikers (home, Hurstville Oval)

It's almost hard to believe the all-conquering Sixers are in this position after their dominant run over the past few years. But a few injuries - including to star captain Ellyse Perry - have exposed problems with the depth in the Sixers squad and for the first time since WBBL|01, when they lost their first six games before storming up the table all the way into the final, they have lost four matches on the trot. To ensure they feature in the semi-finals, they need to beat the in-form Strikers at Hurstville this weekend, preferably twice to take the Renegades and net run rate out of the equation.

5th: Melbourne Renegades (12 points)

Played 12 | Won 6 | Lost 6 | NRR -0.003

The run home

Nov 30 v Stars (home, Junction Oval)

Dec 1 v Thunder (home, Junction Oval)

The Renegades kept their season well and truly alive with their stunning win over the Heat in Brisbane and they head into a weekend at home with their destiny in their hands. If they win both of their remaining matches, and the Sixers do likewise, fourth spot will be decided by net run rate. A loss won't spell season over for the Renegades, but they will be relying on the Sixers to likewise drop a match. Another concern is the Melbourne weather, with rain forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

6th: Sydney Thunder (11 points)

Played 13 | Won 5 | Lost 6 | NR 1 | NRR -0.406

The run home

Dec 1 v Renegades (away, Junction Oval)

The Thunder still have faint hopes of making the final four but need a lot to go their way, including both the Renegades and Sixers dropping all their remaining games. If that happens and the Thunder get the better of the Renegades on Sunday, they will finish on 13 points - enough to steal fourth spot.

7th: Hobart Hurricanes (7 points)

Played 12 | Won 3 | Lost 8 | NR 1 | NRR -0.238

The run home

Nov 30 v Scorchers (away, Lilac Hill)

Dec 1 v Scorchers (away, Lilac Hill)

The Hurricanes will be left wondering what might have been from WBBL|05 after coming so close on so many occasions, only to find themselves out of the running for finals. Small moments and a few tactical errors have cost them, but their final two matches are a chance to keep developing a playing group that should largely remain intact next season.

Tryon's tremendous knock goes in vain

8th: Melbourne Stars (4 points)

Played 11 | Won 2 | Lost 10 | NRR -0.765

The run home

Nov 30 v Renegades (home, Junction Oval)

Dec 1 v Heat (home, Junction Oval)

It’s season over for the Stars, but they still have a chance to end the tournament on a high note and cause some problems for the top teams in the process. They’ve picked up one upset win over local rivals the Renegades and you can guarantee they will be after another come Saturday.
