Star allrounder "cannot wait" for the Big Bash this summer

Perth Scorchers' hopes of making it back-to-back BBL tiles have received a boost with allrounder Mitch Marsh re-committing to the club.

The recently appointed Western Australia skipper is expected to be back at full fitness to showcase his all-round capabilities when the reigning champions begin their KFC BBL|07 campaign on December 23.

Marsh has spent the winter recovering from shoulder surgery that cut short his Test tour of India in March.

The powerful right-hander is set to return to action as a batter only when he leads the Warriors in the upcoming JLT One-Day Cup, before targeting a comeback with the ball in the early rounds of the JLT Sheffield Shield.

"I literally cannot wait for Big Bash to start," Marsh told

"My body and shoulder feel really good, I’ve been taking it slowly but ticking all the right boxes so it’ll be good to get back out there.

"The BBL has grown into an amazing tournament. Playing with the Scorchers for the last six years, we’ve had some awesome success and we’re hoping we can maintain that winning culture this summer, too."

The Scorchers have maintained a remarkable run of success in the Twenty20 competition, making it through to the final in five of the six seasons so far and winning on three of those occasions.

Under highly-respected coach Justin Langer, the Scorchers have developed a repuation for pulling off unlikely victories on the back of brilliant performances with the ball.

"We've got a great squad and great comraderie," Marsh told The Unplayable Podcast this week when asked about Perth's secret to success.

"I think our bowling attack over the past couple of years has been phenomenal.

"We've been able to defend totals even when we didn't seem to have enough runs on the board.

"Over the next couple of years it's going to be really important that we keep that group together."
