For all the enthralling finishes, mighty individual heroics and unbelievable moments permeated across BBL|04, it was ultimately the season's final ball that encapsulated the most spectacular summer to-date.

After several seasons of enthralling clashes, it was the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers left standing at Canberra's Manuka Oval; their burgeoning rivalry evolving into undoubtedly the competition's most defining and enduring feud after the heart-racing BBL|04 decider.

In the lead-up to that last-ball decider was yet another action-packed season, complete with world cricket's biggest names making their mark in the BBL. From England superstars Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Flintoff and Ben Stokes, West Indies livewires Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo plus the world's greatest ever allrounder in South African immortal Jacques Kallis, the starpower of BBL|04 was close to unparalleled.

But the main event involved two men of their respective nations and teams: Aussie hero Brett Lee of the Sydney Sixers, and Pakistan international signing Yasir Arafat of the Perth Scorchers.

In his last ever game and with scores tied with three balls remaining, a fired-up Lee - turning back the clock with his fearsome action, searing pace and trademark chainsaw celebration to boot - willed himself and the Sixers right to the end to find himself on a hat-trick with one delivery left. The Scorchers on the sidelines, who thought the game was won some balls ago, suddenly found their heart-rates well on the up.

But the fairytale finish for 'Binga' and the Sixers fell short by the barest of margins. The far-from-recognised batter in Arafat dug out Lee's vicious final ball, scampering through for a match-winning single as the Sixers missed a last-gasp run-out opportunity to force the game into a Super Over finish.

In turn, it was the Scorchers who wrote history in the nation's capital by becoming the first side to win multiple titles and fully kick-start their run as the competition's most dominant power.
