Even after 15 years of the competition, records were being broken left and right in one of the most breath-taking seasons of BBL to-date.
Amid Steve Smith's 41-ball ton in the Sydney Smash (which produced 32 runs off one over after famously denying a single off Pakistani super signing Babar Azam the previous over) and Finn Allen's swashbuckling 38-six season, the exhilarating clash between Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers was the undisputed pinnacle of the campaign.
Against all odds after being hammered all over the park, twin centuries to Matt Renshaw and Jack Wildermuth saw the Heat chase down a massive 258 runs with a ball to spare in front of a heaving Gabba crowd. It was an unforgettable spectacle that saw the highest combined total (515 runs), most sixes (36) and highest partnership (212) in a BBL game.
Although failing to defend their monster total of 257 against the Heat, the Scorchers hit their straps when it mattered most.
Skippered by Ashton Turner and propelled by an explosive batting line-up spearheaded by Mitch Marsh and Finn Allen, the Scorchers strongarmed their way to a sixth BBL championship, knocking off their old rivals in the Sydney Sixers in the process to solidify themselves as the competition's most successful and dominant power.
