After three cracks at a BBL championship, the third time proved to be a charm for the Perth Scorchers in BBL|03.
It was the start of what was a nigh-untouchable reign for the Scorchers, who seldom missed out on finals appearances over the ensuing years and would in time solidify themselves as the competition's most successful franchise.
Their inaugural success was broadcast in households right across the nation, with Network 10 bringing the BBL to free-to-air television for the first time. Equipped with a vast array of pastel-coloured formalwear, cricket royalty in Adam Gilchrist, Damien Fleming, Ricky Ponting, Mark Waugh and Sir Viv Richards elevated the Big Bash to a staple of the Australian summer, accessible and visible to more than ever before.
Among the games beamed into living rooms was yet another epic between the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers, which saw the first-ever Super Over in BBL history. With scores tied after 20 overs apiece, Yasir Arafat was the hero with two decisive wickets - those of Steve Smith and Moises Henriques - to see off the Sixers for just one run.
In turn, Adam Voges needed only one delivery to chase down the two-run target and continue the Scorchers' march towards yet another successful finals campaign.
