It's no surprise that the arrival and immediate impact of young superstar Rashid Khan from Afghanistan coincided with the Adelaide Strikers' maiden title.
From his very first ball, the leg-spinning wizard was bamboozling batters through his myriad of variations and lightning-quick action, going on to light up the competition with an equal-best 18 wickets for the season.
The lengthened season across more venues certainly helped Rashid pick up more wickets, as too for the Strikers top brass batters to cement their standings among the season's most prolific hitters. Although unable to catch up to the stellar 572-run campaign of Hurricanes D'Arcy Short, the likes of future Test players Alex Carey (443), Jake Weatherald (383) and Travis Head (374) all featured in the top five scorers for the year.
It was ultimately Weatherald's wonderful knock in the title decider against the Hurricanes which spelled the difference; his historic 115 off 70 balls marking both the only century to-date in a BBL Final and the Strikers' first championship.
