A Melbourne Derby decider between the Stars and Renegades had all the makings of an epic: a state-based final between two fierce rivals, both sides vying for a maiden championship and an array of superstars in each team. But even then, what transpired at Marvel Stadium could never have been predicted.
The Stars' vexingly elusive title seemed to be in the bag after keeping the Renegades to 145 and cruising to 93 without loss, however that all changed in a heartbeat.
The fall of Marcus Stoinis, Ben Dunk, Glenn Maxwell and Peter Handscomb in the space of 13 balls left the Stars reeling, as the ice-cold efforts of BBL veteran Dan Christian saw the title slip through team green's fingers and into the lap of the relentless Renegades.
That 7-19 collapse has haunted the Stars for seasons on end. With the Hurricanes breaking their championship drought in BBL|14, they remain the only side without a piece of silverware to this day.
It's an added satisfaction for the often-times underdog Renegades, who deprived their cross-town rivals of glory and turned in into their own greatest triumph.
