While high scores and explosive hitting have always been cornerstones of BBL, it was perhaps a sheer lack of both which resulted in one of the most mind-boggling and bizarre games in the league's history.

The Sydney Thunder were sensationally bowled out for a meagre 15 runs by a Strikers' pace brigade; the calamitous collapse at ENGIE Stadium - headlined by Henry Thornton's 5-3 - spanning just 34 deliveries in a match that bewildered the entire cricketing world.

Fortunately, triple-figure scores were reinstated in the ensuing matches. Matt Short's epic century chasing down the Hurricanes' then-record total of 229 was among the highlights of the season, as were Steve Smith's back-to-back centuries to entrench himself as one of the game's most prolific players across all formats.

And who could forget when controversy reined between both Michael Neser's juggling boundary line catch (which resulted in a change to the laws of the game) and Adam Zampa's divisive mankad to send Tom Rogers packing in a heated Melbourne Derby.

It was ultimately neither of those sides left standing come the decider, with the Perth Scorchers vying for back-to-back titles and a fifth overall coming up against the plucky Brisbane Heat, who had snuck into fifth position and appeared poised to pinch their second championship as underdogs.

Requiring 38 off the final three overs, the Scorchers looked like they may have let the ultimate prize slip through their grasp. But coming in clutch, a tide-turning 25 off 11 off the bat of a young Cooper Connolly ripped the game away from the Heat to subsequently secure a fifth title for the supreme Scorchers.
