Purple reigned supreme in BBL|14 as the Hobart Hurricanes at long last ended their championship drought after 14 seasons to bring some long-awaited silverware back to the Apple Isle.
Their triumph came in undeniably emphatic fashion through the sheer strength and spectacle that was Mitch Owen, who etched his name into BBL folklore with the equal-fastest century in the BBL coming off just 39 balls.
That 108-run blitz from the homegrown Tassie talent, which included a whopping 11 sixes, could barely be contained by the stunned Thunder brigade, who themselves looked to be in the box-seat for a victory after piling on 182 on the Hurricanes' home turf.
It was the icing on top of a dominant campaign saw the Hurricanes finish atop the table, closely tailed by the Sydney Sixers who again found themselves dipping out on yet another title tilt after dropping The Challenger to their cross-town rivals.
The Thunder had their own version of Mitch Owen in the form of teenager Sam Konstas, whose explosive innings pushed him onto the national stage for Australia's Test side mere weeks later. Although departing the Thunder prior to their finals berth in lieu of a Boxing Day Test debut - where he ramped Indian great Jaspirit Bumrah for multiple sixes - perhaps even Konstas' inclusion may not have turned the tide in the Thunder's favour in that BBL|14 Final.
On that historic night at Ninja Stadium, there simply was no counter to Mitch Owen's might.
