Simply put, the Brisbane Heat's miraculous title win was both one of the most unbelievable triumphs and shocks to rock the competition's fledgling years.

The Sydney Sixers had everything in place for what appeared destined to be a hat-trick of titles. Ellyse Perry had unequivocally dominated the season with a record 778 runs at an average of 86.33, the Sixers had finished on top of the table with 10 wins and had banked a home final after knocking over the Renegades in a gripping semi-final which was decided by a Super Over.

But Brisbane hadn't taken note of the script. Coming off their own semi-final thriller against the Thunder thanks to a cracking Haidee Birkett catch off the last ball, the Heat came into the Final with a groundswell of momentum onside.

Amid a sea of magenta at Drummoyne Oval, the Heat steadily whittled down the Sixers' total of 131, largely courtesy a heroic innings from Beth Mooney, who although suffering from both the flu and severe heatstroke, posted a pivotal 65 runs.

With their maiden trophy on the line, Laura Harris blasted the winning runs with four balls remaining - aided by a costly collision and misfield on the boundary - to send the Heat camp into a frenzy and completely silence majority of the crowd who had come to see what seemed destined to be a third consecutive title for the Sixers.
