After eight seasons toiling for their inaugural WBBL championship, the Adelaide Strikers didn't have to wait much longer before adding another to their once-bare trophy cabinet.
Tahlia McGrath's powerful outfit with both bat and ball were close to unchallenged for much of the campaign, even making history with the largest ever winning margin in the WBBL of 148 runs against the Melbourne Stars.
Peculiarly, that masterclass with the ball, which saw the Melbourne Stars dismantled for a record-low total of 29 runs, fell in the same season where the Strikers' BBL outfit were comprehensively bowled out for a paltry 15.
The Strikers did eventually face serious competition in the form of the Brisbane Heat, who had deprived them of their first title tilt all the way back in WBBL|05.
Headlined by the explosive Grace Harris with the bat, whose unbeaten 136 earlier in the season led to a staggering 229 against the Scorchers, the Heat knocked over the fancied Thunder and Scorchers in their respective finals to contend for the trophy.
And come close they absolutely did. Requiring just five runs off the final two deliveries courtesy of a pivotal six the delivery before from Mikayla Hinkley, the steely Amanda-Jade Wellington held her nerve with the ball to secure a thrilling three-run victory in front of a raucous Adelaide Oval crowd and consolidate back-to-back triumphs for the Strikers.
